Vibrato takes years to learn to do and it is something that your teacher needs to work with you on. If you already have a planned date for a solo coming up, there is no time to suddenly get better at vibrato. If the violin is shaking all over the place, you are probably doing wrist vibrato and not finger vibrato, so you are already doing it wrong and need to start over, but you need the guidance of a teacher watching what you are doing.

Unless the solo is next year, you don't have time to learn vibrato between now and then. Whoever said you have to do it is being unreasonable, or maybe doesn't have any clue how long it takes to get a good, controlled vibrato. If the violin is shaking, you're squeezing the neck with your hand instead of supporting the violin with your shoulder and head while leaving the hand loose.

if you are shaking the violin when you do vibrato, then you are probably holding it too tight.

you should be holding with your head so the hand is free to move, and the thumb and first joint of the finger must be relaxed enough to bend freely when the hand moves.

the hand can move either as a result of the wrist leaning back or the arm pushing out, but if you do both those things they cancel each other out and you get a lot of movement but hardly any pitch fluctuation.

you really need to have a teacher work with you on it, but heres a video that shows details of what many people do wrong.

Unfortuantley, it takes usually years to learn.
