He didn't study music himself, as far as I am concerned he doesn't have the necessary knowledge to judge someone on his/her singing ability.

The only way I've ever really been able to justified his position to Critique people is that,
He is human.
It's as simple as that, he has likes and dislikes in some ways he represents everyone and everyone's opinion. I mean he can blatantly tell good from bad and forms his own opinions about people's talents.
Sometimes his stances on a contestant influences our own.
However where he fails as a judge (and actually where just about every judge on every show fails) is looking through people's talents and exploiting their personalities and habits, e.g, Susan Boyle was an older woman who acted a certain way, he acted cynically towards her until she started singing. In a bid to get more viewers instead of it just being a singing contest.
In this way he is impartial to certain groups of people and in that respect he technically fails as an honest judge.

Maybe a gift from the lord?! but not all the time...in x-factor he let Jazzlyn Little go and chose that Melanie Amaro.I loved Jazzlyn :( anyways, although he's good at finding talents,he's very sarcastic and outspoken... I kinda like him, though.
