Hi I play guitar and occasionally when no one is around I enjoy singing to myself, but i probably have a horrible singing voice. Can you judge my singing voice and if there are room for improvements? I'm not trying to be a singer and the only person I'm trying to satisfy by singing better is myself. Or am I pretty much screwed with this voice?

Most people love to sing but not everyone is born with a great voice. The great news is that anyone can learn how to sing better no matter where you are starting from. The voice is like a musical instrument and although some people have more of a natural aptitude for getting a great note out of it, by learning how to "play" this instrument correctly, you can improve considerably, wherever you're starting from.

One of the most important aspects of singing well involves correct breathing. Now you would think that we would already do this correctly. After all if we couldn't breathe we wouldn't be alive! But in reality many people have bad breathing habits caused by a variety of things including poor posture and our often frantic lifestyles. Learning how to control your breathing is one of the keys to improving your voice.

Singing requires that you are able to take in enough air quickly before you are about to sing a line and then let this air out in a regular and controlled way whilst singing the notes. The mistake many novice singers do is to take a quick shallow gasp of air into the top of the lungs. This results in there being insufficient air, to get you through the line you are singing, and you will end up dropping notes. I'm sure you can relate to this experience and can remember times when you have had to quickly take in more air half way through the line or note you are singing.

if you want to really sing the song apologize then you need to hit the words right,

some emotion in the song would be better

and better practice a lot because you will get better

Opps,

Yes there is way for improvement and your singing voice is bad but not because you have a bad voice but because you do not know how to use it properly.

I imagine you are in between 14-17 years old, your voice sound young and airy, a little out of pitch because you are following the music line instead of singing the exact pitches. Those are the "bad" points, now if you want to improve, start by just singing little phrases without accompanying yourself on the guitar i.e. play a pitch on the guitar and repeat it with your voice, play a 5 note scale in your guitar and repeat it with your voice, and so and so, but be precise on the pitches while you sing. That as far as goes for training your ear to tell your brain what exactly must come out from your mouth.

Now a little bit of vocal technique, your back must be straight and I know it is difficult for you because you more than likely lean over the guitar and play but...if you want to have an efficient breath support for your voice that is what you MUST do. Lay down flat on your back using your bed and notice the natural movement of your abdomen and thorax when you inhale and exhale. That is pretty much what you must feel and do when you are sitting down or standing up. When you release the air you must keep your sternum high and use your thoracic muscles to release it. Nothing should happen in your neck such as stress, squeeze or tension.

Hope this helps a little to get you started in singing. The best part of your question is that you try to improve yourself and that is the right track to follow, congrats!!!

There's no emotion, in my opinion and breathing is really important, you should try breathing excercises you have to be able to not sound so breathy when you do sing it might help.

You've probably got potential, although right now you sound a little rough.

First of all, you need to sing with emotion! Right now you just sort of sound like you're reading the lyrics off of your computer screen for the first time and don't even know what they're about! Sing with passion and people will want to listen... :) Also, remember to breath at times when the singing pauses, not in the middle of a line where there isn't supposed to be a break. You can sound better if you work hard enough!

Good luck! ♥
