It was called "New Miserable Experience," their first album. Yes, the lead singer was Doug Hopkins. He wrote all album's hits but was an alcoholic who ended up committing suicide. Really tragic ... he had a lot of talent and the band hasn't been the same since.

Robin Wilson was always the lead singer of Gin Blossoms, and sings on all the albums. The only other singer the band ever had was Jesse Valenzuela, the band's current guitarist. Although, Jesse was replaced by Robin after only one year on vocals. Both Jesse and Robin play guitar. I saw them last Friday perform-it was amazing! A lot of passion and attitude that you don't see too often.

Doug Hopkins never actually sang. He was the lead guitarist (until forced to resign from the band) and the main songwriter.
New Miserable Experience era lead singer was Robin Wilson, who had taken over as lead for Jesse Valenzuela.
Their first cd was actually Dusted, but was released independently.
