I'm 15 yrs old and I want to start a band (styles like Evanescence, Paramore, Lacuna Coil, System of a Down and i like hard rock too)
I can play piano really well(i took professional classical piano lessons for 7 years) and I also know how to play guitar (but not as good as piano of course, I took classical guitar lessons starting in April 2007 and I quit this month (february) but I know all the notes, and i know how to do chords. i need to learn how to play with a pick though lol AHHH!!
but there's one problem, I can't sing! =(
How can I learn to sing?? - I know it probably takes a while, but I'm willing to do anything (if it doesnt work out, ill just find a singer for my band and ill play either keyboard or guitar)

oh and im very good with pitch, i just need to know how to get a middle voice (i can go up to the middle E - starting there, i start to strain and i can only sing high notes if i scream, and of course, that doesnt sound so great! lol)

so how can i learn how to sing? and

Evanescence does rock! Woohoo! :)

I can't sing either, but I play guitar. I've given up though, because I know I can't sing. I also wanted to start a band a few years ago and I found a singer and a bassist but we couldn't find a drummer so we let it go.

It's very possible to learn to sing well. You just need to know the right methods. Learn here https://tr.im/qT022

Singing teachers will cost money and can be expensive so they're not for everyone. Singing can be learned so it's not an "either you have it or you don't" kind of thing.

Whether you sound like crap or you're decent, I recommend this singing course. It's one of the best methods to learn to sing well in a short amount of time. It's all about using efficient techniques that work.

If you want to become a better singer, improve your singing voice and are considering an online course I strongly recommend this site:

http://howtosing.toptips.org

I am big fan of this online singing course. You can watch a video more times until you can grasp each concept. Even if the program runs on a 10-day period, you can spend more or less, depending on your own pace. All the guides and tools included in this program are designed by professionals. This means you will learn transitions, changes and voice modification techniques like a pro! It comes with a plethora of exercises, allowing you to improve any aspect of your voice.

It definitely the best alternative to expensive lessons with vocal coaches. Try it and you'll see great results!

Well... the way to learn to sing is to do it. Just sing every chance you get. But you know, there's nothing that says the leader of the band has to be a singer. You can put a band together and be the keyboardist.

One of the guys that plays bass for me from time to time was lamenting that he doesn't get enough gigs. I just said "So start a band and get some gigs!"

I hope it works out for you. Even if you start off with another lead singer and just do back up for starters, that's great training too. Harmonizing is a fantastic way to get your chops up.

good luck!

If you're gonna play rock, I think you don't need any professional training. Just practice your voice control. By the way, by the looks of it, I think it would be better that you just stick to an instrument and have another person perform the vocal duties. You can play piano well and have some classical background in guitar which I think is already good enough for you to play those two instruments.

Lead singer requires the best voice in the band and it's nice to have another good voice in the group. You could do backups to the lead like chorus or back harmonies. Your voice has to find a comfort zone and see what notes you don't strain on. Sounds like below middle E is your comfort zone. Screaming is fine for certain types of music, perhaps punk-rock or hard rock on those type of songs that fit that style. Good luck on your band, but remember the band has to stay within its limits. Perhaps you can go someone who knows how to coach you in voice and pitch, so you know your limits and do well.

First of all you need to listen to artist that know how to sang that would help you the most. Evanescence is a very good band to listen to but those other bands ? Pop, R&B and old school music will teach you best how to sang. Hard Rock bands scream they don't sang. Heart would be a great band to try to sound like. Honey if you could spit out some hard rock vocals like this you will be the best =

anyone can sing

Vocal cords are muscles.

Your throat is controlled by muscles

You mouth and tongue is controlled by muscles

Your nose is controlled by muscles

Your lungs

Your chest

Your diaphragm

Your lips...

What can you do with muscles?

Exercise them!

With exercise comes control and improved range of use.

You can purchase self-help guides like the for dummies series, and various other singing instructional books.

You can focus on particular (different style) vocal artists.

Learn to sing their songs well or even better than they do by making it your own.

Record yourself with your computer. Start out by using the windows sound recorder program and a head set microphone.

Open volume control and click "options" then "properties"

Click the recording button and make sure that in the list of mixers you have "microphone" and "stereo mix" available.

Close properties and your volume control will have changed to a recording control with those mixers you selected.

You can only record from one source at a time.

Microphone will isolate sound entering the mike.

Under advanced options you can boost the mike if it is too quiet.

Stereo mix will record all sound coming out of your speakers.

If you open another window of volume control, you can adjust the volumes of microphone and wave separately to get a smooth mix of your voice and the song playing.

By recording yourself you can listen to it and actually judge your voice accurately. You can work on particular parts that need improvement. You can play around with sounds.

Make sure you can hear yourself when you sing. A monitor is ideal because it reduces feedback tremendously (the high pitched whine you get when the mike loops through the speaker) The headset will be a good way to start because the sound will be limited to your headphones and not easily reach the microphone.

good luck and have fun.

as far as singing goes, i don't think you need any classes on it, just sing from your heart and how you want to sing, it's the ultimate musical form of self-expression, so instead of learning how to focus different pitches and notes, sound how you want to sound, everyone has a voice in them, but if you don't believe in yourself, it just won't work
