Hi, i have been singing for awhile and when i go and try to sing high notes it sounds raspy and it sounds like im forcing it. Can you please tell me any exercises or anything that will help me sing my high notes a lot smoother and a lot cleaner?

Think about the note coming through your nose. Sing some exercises with an over-exaggerated nasal tone (think Steve Urkel, or Lois Griffin) For example, sing an arpeggiated triad (Do-Mi-Sol-Mi-Do) on the syllable "nia" (Like the end of ClaiforNIA) put the emphases on the final A sound. Do this starting in your mid range voice and move up by a half step until you get to those high notes that have been giving you trouble. You'll feel really stupid doing this, but try and make it sound as nasal and ugly as possible. Once you become comfortable with this you can adjust your tone. You'll be able to sing those high notes with a healthy "forward" placement, and a easy sound.

I had the same problem, and this exercise helped me a ton. It also increased my range from a G above middle C, to a Bb above middle C.

If you love to sing, then I doubt you are a horrible singer. Choir is a good place to start and learn to use your voice. If you are very serious about it, you could hire a voice teacher. Have fun and enjoy doing something that you love.

relax while u're singing and dont put too much effort on how u want your voice to sound coz that just put u in too much concentration and it wont hit the note u're trying.

and many vocal teachers say to use yr stomach while singing but just imagine the sound u're trying to sing and enjoy yourself. also practice on the breathing techniques. cause u have to have a good 'breathing technique' to have that 'stomach voice'. and remember devoloping yr voice takes years so just keep on practicing and never give up :) good luck!

Breathing exercises and sing from the diaphram and not the throat/larynx.

Did you know, when swimming you use the same muscles as you do singing?

Hope this helped...

sing scales that gradually get higher

and make sure that when you sing high notes you are trying to be light, not heavy.. it's called your head voice

and make sure you breathe from your diaphragm

high notes are reachable for anyone, its not a physical barrier but a mental one, if you think you can hit it, you will.

When you go to hit the note, bend you knees and look down, it opens your chest more and therefore easier to hit the notes.

Good luck!
